Responding to a connection requests on Linkedin

July 02, 20231 min read

With Linkedin being the go-to platform today for building business connections, it is important that you respond to a connection request in a way that will continue the conversation and build relationships.

Julie Mason, the Queen of Linkedin, suggests that you use the following when responding to a connection request:

“Hey (Name)

Thanks for reaching out and connecting. I look forward to getting to know you further through Linkedin.

Out of curiosity, what inspired you to connect and how can I help you?

Cheers,

Wes”

I have been using this strategy myself for many years and find that it helps to start a conversation with the person and builds further relationship with them.

Sometimes it goes no where, but often it leads to a more decent conversation with them.

Some other key tips in connecting on Linkedin are:

  1. Check your “My Network” section on Linkedin regularly and respond quickly to connection requests, you never know, that person may be the next key to growing your business!

  2. Check whether they are a person you wish to connect with first. Check out their profile page. Do they have a good profile photo? How many connections do they have? do they have a summary of experience details? Do you have connections in common?

  3. You do not have to accept everyone. Sometimes people are just not a good fit for the network you are seeking to build. It is ok to decline their invitation.
